All-Time 10 Best TV Series

Presenting the Top Ten Television Series of All Time as chosen by the SpittingLlamas’s television critic. Unfortunately a list of ten requires that I be extremely selective, so there was no room for classics like Mama’s Family and Manimal. On with the list (in alphabetical order):

Cheers
The Cosby Show
E.R.
I Love Lucy
The Jeffersons
M.A.S.H.
Sanford and Son
Scrubs
The Simpsons
The West Wing

Come back tomorrow and throughout the week for complete coverage, including reviews from our television critic.

No X-files? ;oP Good call to put them in alphabetical order…

The X-Files certainly deserves consideration. But as I looked at the list, I couldn’t figure out what show it would replace.

one word: seinfeld

Though I despise it, I think Seinfeld must be on the list. Probably in the place of Scrubs.

You know, I gave Seinfeld quite a bit of thought but couldn’t decide which show to pull. While it had longevity and was quite good in its own way, the only series that could’ve been removed to make a space was Scrubs. However, despite its relatively short stint thus far, I think the writing on Scrubs is borderline genius and could not justify putting a series with average acting atop a stand-up routine in its place.

James, you have finally written the description I have long been searching for when describing my distaste of Seinfeld to other people:

“a series with average acting atop a stand-up routine in its place”

I love it. Thanks!

I think I may have to extend the list to 20 so as to include shows like X-Files, St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues. Anyone have thoughts on other series that would fit in the 11-20 slots?

Welcome Back Cotter. Nah, I’m just kidding. Seriously though, La Femme Nikita. It was produced by the people that are currently producing 24. The first two seasons are out on dvd. Check it out.

“The Shield” - Simply the best cop drama ever created, though maybe too new for the list.

“Married…with Children” - THE archetypal sitcom that made possible most of the sitcoms we see today.

What about “The Honeymooners”?

Taxi?
WKRP?
Barney Miller?

Three of the funniest shows to ever hit the airwaves….

While I’ll have to respectively disagree on your Lost assessment, I will say that you have some sweet photos on your site. Very nice.

What about Friends??

Lost is quite clearly one of the greatest shows ever written. i have never seen a show which has as many twists that can all fit together so well. Even now i have gone back and watched previous episodes to find things which fit in so well to the future storyline…

i only hope they give the show the ending it deserves and not try and push it past its lifespan.

What about, “Start Trek”, “The Monsters”, “addam’s family”, “Lost”, “Desperate housewives”, “Queer as folks”, “The soprano’”, “Six feet under”?
